Netflix Shows Based on Books We Love
Books have become a great source of many channels of entertainment. TV Series is one of them, and we love watching them. They follow the story of the book and build up on it, sometimes for better, sometimes worse, but often entertaining. Here are TV Shows on Netflix based on books, we love to watch (Spoilers ahead):
3 Body Problem
“In the face of madness, rationality was powerless.”What if you knew that an advanced alien species is going to take over the earth in 400 hundred years? Would you fight it or just don’t care? 3 Body Problem raises many thought provoking questions through a group of scientists. The series plays like a book going from chapters in the past to chapters in the (40 years later) present. It follows a potential alien invasion, murder mystery, space exploration, scientific discovery, and the complexity of maintaining human relationships. Our favorite character was played by John Bradley (Samwell Tarly from Game of Thrones), who brought a sense of humor and compassion missing in the science oriented world of 3 Body Problem. If you’re a sci-fi fan, it is a must watch!
You
“Sometimes, We Do Bad Things For The People We Love. It Doesn’t Mean It’s Right; It Means Love Is More Important.”A show whose protagonist (anti-hero.. maybe..) who grew up in a library, making multiple references to classic books and stories, while keeping an ex boyfriend prisoner in the basement, is sure to please all the bookworms. You is a show about a brilliant book store manager who is in search for love. Who has a huge capacity for love. Who can do anything for love. Anything. Would you be able to handle this kind of love? Filled with psychological mystery, murder, and very real modern day social media stalking techniques. You is a tale best left in the fictional world. Our personal favorite is season 1. The main cast is perfect in their roles and the story evolves organically. It’s a must watch show on love, betrayal and murder.
Mindhunter
“To understand the monster, you must first understand the mind of the monster.”If there was a killer sitting across the table, would you be able to talk to them? Mindhunter is a story of two FBI Agents who develop the field of psychological evaluation and serial killers to help solve crimes. Imagine, before these two coined it, the concept of serial killers wasn’t there. In the broad term, Mindhunter can be seen as a series of interviews which opens the gate to the depths of evil human beings can actually dive into with pride. Their interviews with characterizations of famous American serial killers like Ed Kemper, BTK and Charles Manson is sure to send shivers down your spine as you hear why the killers did what they did. You love a psychological murder mystery? You’ll love mindhunter.

Haunting of Hill House
“To learn what we fear is to learn who we are. Horror defies our boundaries and illuminates our souls.”What if your father woke you up in the middle of the night and asked you to leave your mother behind and run away. Would you be able to do it? Maybe, if she was possessed? Haunting of hill house, is what a horror series, needs to be like. It scary with a flair of modern story-telling, bound to grip you. It follows a family of 5 kids and 2 parents who move into Hill House for the summer. As the parents are working on flipping the house, the younger twins begin to experience dark forces lurking about in the house. But soon, every family member has their own brush with the spirits beyond. Staying in the house means losing your mind and you can’t go away. Our favorite episode is episode 6: Two storms. This episode will take your breath away from a story and a film making standpoint.
Special mention
Haunting of Bly Manor
Another “Haunting” series by Mike Flanagan, haunting of bly manor, though not as scary as hill house, but it is more artistic in it’s story telling approach. Just watch the last episode, and you’ll feel nothing you’ve ever felt from a horror series.
Sacred Games
“The truth is that human beings like to be ruled. They will talk and talk about freedom, but they are afraid of it”What if I am a god? This is a question gangster Ganesh Gaitonde asks himself as he threatens to blow up the entire city. Will he succeed? Sacred Games is an Indian TV Series about the battle between past and present. A gangster whose past rose from being a nobody to the most feared name in the city. The cop whose future depends on the fact that he is the only one, the gangster will talk to. It is an enthralling experience to watch the rise of Ganesh Gaitonde and the investigation of Sartaj Singh. Sacred Games, based on the book by the same name, written by Vikram Chandra, is a show which will keep you on the edge of your seats.
